Trinidad carnival checklist at 5 weeks to go!
Buy road shoes, and good socks!
Recently, I purchase a new pair of puma shoes. The same brand I always buy but for some reason this pair caused a lot of pain. They chafed my heel and hurt terribly. I can’t imagine the pain and sufferation if I had bought them, not tested them and tried to wear them in Trinidad Carnival on the road. The time is NOW, 5 weeks out, to buy a new pair that match your costume and make sure they have no pressure points or poor fit by actually walking in them for long periods of time.
i also advise a thick comfortable pair of ankle socks. Your toes will thank you.
Buy any new clothes you need.
So by this time, most of your weight loss has already happened. You can buy your fete wardrobe.
Make a list of your events and the dress codes. Look for old photos of the events or similar events. Buy some bright colourful fits to look your best.
Fellas! Practise hair removal (nair, razor or shear)
As I have said MANY times before. For carnival, that hairless, glazed donut look is a good look. That why athletes do it on the Olympia stage….and I do it on the carnival stage.
See the different methods here.
Buy teeth whitening stuff
I suggest crest white strips! Don’t use them till about 2 weeks out (buy and use sensodyne toothpaste for sensitivity starting a few days before ). If you can tolerate it, use them twice a day but I can only use it once daily. So I double the duration of treatment. I edit lots of carnival pics and white teeth makes a HUGE difference! Give it a try
Buy travel size *no tears* sunscreen for head and face.
Sunscreen is THE MOST important item you need for the entirety of your carnival trip. You have to wear it head to toe on the road. This often results in sunscreen running into your eyes which can burn like hell. Avoids this by buying a travel size sport lotion sunblock designed to not run or irritate. The sunblock for the rest of your body u can buy in Trinidad at the pharmacy.
Earplugs.
A close second behind sunblock are earplugs. These turn the painfully loud blast of speakers down to pleasant levels, even directly behind the truck or by the fete speaker box. Take a look at the ones I use.
