A message to the new carnival addicts.

Carnival in Jamaica has come and gone and what a time it was. For the next few weeks I will be putting together fete reviews and photo albums and discussing all things carnival.

I wanted to make this quick blog post to talk to the NEW carnival addicts among us. The persons who decided to give this carnival thing a try for the first time and who (like the rest of us addicts) had a euphoric, lifechanging experience who’s giddy highs are matched only by the terrible tabanca that follows when its all done. This post is for those who now put the carnival money down monthly BEFORE the light bill!

My message to you is that the tabanca you are wallowing in isn’t to be wasted. The addiction to carnival you now have is to be USED, like fuel! Carnival is a great motivational force you can use to break through procrastination and to help you push harder in all your other normal endeavors. Hear me out…..

Think of carnival as a great catharsis for the hard work, trials and tribulations of your normal life. Spend months working your ass off in a gym……Carnival is your catharsis. Work hella hard all day at work to do your job to a superior level……Carnival is your catharsis. Take the time to ensure you meet the physical and emotional needs of your loved ones and family……Carnival is YOUR time!

This catharsis cannot come unearned however. Trust me…. Doing the hard work makes carnival feel so much better, because you EARNED it. Use your new addiction to motivate you to work harder, do more and be better in all aspects of life to make that next day on the road the blissful experience you deserve!

  1. Start the gym. Find and pay a trainer that focuses on bodybuilding. Work as hard as you can to build the physique you want to put in that costume next year. Jamaican ladies….you will NOT get “too thick”. In fact you will discover how incredibly hard it is for women to put on muscle!
  2. Take an hour each day to learn something new about your craft. I take an hour walking on my treadmill most evenings to watch a lecture on YouTube in my feild of work for example.
  3. Take the time to give your family the attention they need by mindfully and purposefully doing things that THEY love. Take those trips, buy the little surprises etc.

So I hope this advice reaches someone who needs to hear it and if it changes one life out there I will be happy.

SEE YOU ON THE ROAD!

Great advice for the new addicts – lehwego – also a great opportunity to improve the ecosystem of Carnival industry and to align the product with the culture of the host country. It’s more than a jam and wine fete.
