Back on the “Road” in Jamaica
The Easter period is usually the height of carnival for my island continent of JAMAICA. The pandemic has caused some drastic changes though, and even though we are crawling out from under its shadow, things are a bit different for 2022.
The Easter period is still full of vibes and several Soca fetes and it’s cool to see how Soca infused fetes have become much more mainstream in Jamaica.
I had work and other obligations for much of the 2 weekends related to Easter and the traditional Jamaica carnival period BUT I did get to attend “Remedy”, a Soca fete and mini road march at the national stadium.
The party did take a long time to get started, and the Sunday date and rain during the day likely did have an impact on attendance making it definitely not as exciting as the usual Jamaica carnival fetes. I was actually ready to leave when the truck horn blew and we headed onto the road.
I stand by my opinion that chippin beside a truck blasting Soca is simply unparalleled. The vibes became electric, euphoric!
The experience has given me faith that despite the naysayers and the fact that many can’t make the new date, Jamaica carnival in JULY will be a BLAST!
Take a look at some of the night’s festivities.
