Afrosocajam review. March 2023
Afrosocajam is a new event on the calendar here in Jamaica. To be clear, it is not a full on soca party, but a multigenre party that simply promises to include soca along with several other complimentary genres like dancehall and afrobeats. The goal is to bring that happy, soca vibe but with a plethora of genres.
It’s been a LONG time since I have attended a party that isn’t almost exclusively soca and it was quite a change for me. But you know what, it was also nice to catch a vibes to non soca music that had that same happy beat and feeling.
The promoters hope to grow this event into a large festival one day. I think having a larger repertoire of music to call from and attracting the fans of those other genres will help them along their way.
As for me, the party was a nice vibe that DID in fact include a healthy spoonful of soca, nuff jamming and plenty of smiling faces, so I was happy. When carnival has come and gone after April, I for one will gladly attend Afrosocajam to get my soca fix.
