#DOTHEDOUBLE Jamaica carnival then Cropover! (QUICK CROPOVER GUIDE 2022)
It’s time to throw caution to the wind and grab life by the horns.
I’m going to go all out for Carnival in Jamaica. I’m taking vacation leave to make sure I can fully enjoy every fete and have the time of my life.
But I KNOW that tabanca will have me in its grips immediately after, and so why not go from one to the next. This year, Cropover is only 3 WEEKS after carnival in Jamaica! That makes for a tight schedule but it can be done.
First thing is flights!
As of today’s date, a flight to Barbados is very touch and go from Jamaica. Going for a short trip means VERY high prices. Staying a little longer (Tuesday to Tuesday) will mean a significantly cheaper flight.
Somewhere to stay.
Barbados is also a major tourist destination. They have the hotel capacity needed to keep supply high and prices relatively low. Good brand name hotels can be had for as little as 200/person/night and you can stay in comfortable accomodations for MUCH less if you stay at one of the smaller hotels scattered through the island.
MY advice? Stay at or around a location called St. Lawrence Gap near oistens, just outside Bridgetown. It’s a safe, exciting tourist area with many small hotels and an active nightlife, including the world famous streetside gap burgers (think pan chicken man but burgers)!
Getting around.
Like trinidad, I suggest getting a driver with a vehicle to manage your transport around the island. They can find the best routes and take away the dangers of driving tired and remove the need for a designated driver.
The fetes.
For me, the highlight of Cropover lies in the events. The fetes have an electric energy on par with the best of any in the Caribbean. Its nonstop vibes from the get go!
I have a few favourites such as Mimosa, Limerz cruise, Lush, AMbush, Roast and BLISS. More comprehensive fete lists are coming soon!
The ROAD
Kadooment day, as carnival day in barbados is called, is a relatively short affair usually but VERY intense. Expect colourful costumes, a tight route, constant movement and PLENTY ACTION. You better be in shape!
So get your body ready, start jogging to get your stamina up. Its time to get yourself organised!
