Farewell Blaxx

Blaxx, a stalwart in the industry and singer of part of the soundtrack of my carnival memories including several anthems, has died from COVID-19.

its a solemn reminder that covid isn’t completely over.

I also remember blaxx as a die hard defender of Trinidad carnival as the BEST in the world and the source of the all the greatest carnival had to offer. In fact one year Machel caught a vibe in Jamaica and said Jamaica carnival was just as much vibes (or something so) and was immediately tongue lashed by Blaxx. I respect that he was a die hard defender of his Trinbagonian culture.

He serves as an example for those of us throughout the Caribbean and diaspora to love carnival in our own corners of the world and to stand up and help it grow wherever we are. It may mean different things in different places and to different people, but overall it’s about like minded people basking in love for fellow man/woman, musical euphoria, common culture and catharsis.
