Lets go to Miami Carnival 2023!
I wasn’t able to make it to any of the big summer carnivals this year so I am itching for a carnival! Miami carnival is one of my annual favourites and I plan to make the best of it this year.
I love the fact that for Miami there is no stress for flights, hotel, costumes or fete tickets. It is THE MOST STRESS FREE carnival you will go to, and if you play your cards right, a damn good time.
SO! Lets go over the things you need to do to make this a reality. Miami carnival road parade is October 8th 2023.
Cost of flight/ date of flight
I find that the magic spot in terms of cost and duration is to go from Thursday (oct5th) to Monday (oct9th). You can attend most of the biggest and best events in that time frame.
Flights are reasonable at this time of year and please remember about caribbean airlines layaway plan that lets you pay for your ticket in installments (GO TO THE TICKET OFFICE TO SIGN UP….CALLING CAL TO DO BUSINESS IS HELL)
Cost/location of hotel.
I have found that staying in the wynwood downtown Miami area has always been relatively convenient and affordable if you are staying in a hotel. Cheaper options abound though. You can get an AirBnB for much less in proximity to the wynwood area. For a decent hotel plan on about 220usd per night double occupancy. AirBnB will be about half that.
Fete list ( citrus)
At this point the fete lists have not come out yet but from my experience last year I can recommend Citrus. When that ticket drops just buy it…Don’t hitch, don’t debate the cost….JUST…BUY…..IT!!!!
Other good events I have attended in the past include, Duck work, BIg phat fish, and the enormous Soca brainwash. Keep in mind that apart from Citrus, most events are pay bar. So walk with your wallet!
Jouvert for Miami is held on the Saturday morning (sun hot morning – not night morning). Immortals jouvert is one of the biggest and best.
Band/costume options
A big part of the reason to travel for carnival is the road. For those who have never been you may hear others say that because you are in a stadium park it’s not as fun. Well I am here to tell you that once those trucks start rolling you will be. having a blast. Think about it ….if Caesars army can go round the national stadium and its fun why do you think Miami carnival won’t be fun. Trust me it’s a great time on the road just like any other small carnival.
This year I’m jumping in GenX. This is one of the bigger bands and has been around a long time. They know what they are doing and will reliably give you a great road experience. Im looking forward to trying yet another great male costume!
Transport
Getting around for me is easiest and cheapest with Uber or Lyft. Renting and driving brings too much responsibility when all you want to do is party and drink. If you get a decent place downtown you will always be a short walk away from essential amenities.
